All New

I have no idea where time it going at the moment...
It seems like I am doing something all the time, but never really getting anywhere - I am sure you know the feeling. When I feel like that, I try to look back at what I have achieved rather than focus on what is yet to be done.

The New Website of course is one major thing - and I can now add 'web designer' to my many hats... well hardly but it was fun to put together.

"Apple Glory" Goldwork kit by Anna Scott

A New Kit in the shop has also been ticked off my to-do list. It is a small goldwork piece called "Apple Glory". It is acutally a re-worked version of a project I did some years ago "Golden Pomegranate" but after adding a few changes I thought it looked more like an apple.

"Apple Glory" Goldwork kit by Anna Scott

I have designed it specifically as an introduction to goldwork using only four main and rather simple goldwork techniques: Brick couching, Chipping, Attaching kid leather and twisted cord. As always, the instructions are rather detailed (one customer described them as 'a class in a book' yeah!) so if you have never tried goldwork this is an ideal project to give it a go.
If you are in Adelaide, I will be teaching the project at Create in Stitch on Saturday 15 & 29 of August, 9.30am to 12.30pm and there are still free spots. Contact the shop to book.

Another thing I have been thinking about doing for a long time is having some of my pieces made into greeting cards. This is a new little adventure for me and it was a little nerve-wrecking and really exciting to receive the first three. The first three I chose to do is "Over the Hills", "Dawn Chorus" and "What a Bunch".

So it would seem I am getting some things done (even if they don't necessarily involve needle and thread). To celebrate my minor achievements, I have decided to have a little SALE in the shop.
Until Next Sunday (August 9) I am offering 10% off all orders over $25. All you need to do is to use the coupon code ALLNEW at the check-out.

And now... Now I am actually going to stitch for a bit (well after a trip to the post office).
Best stitches,

Embroidered pictures; Lone Tree

It doesn't feel like I have had much time to stitch lately, but when I looked back it turns out I have made a bit of progress on Lone Tree.

The sand dunes are growing and I am having a great time playing with stitches and textures.

Most are really simple stitches; chain stitch, running stitch, stem stitch and couching.

This dune was really rewarding to stitch; two strands of Danish flower thread (a soft cotton similar to floche but matte) couched down in a pattern with a single strand of silk.
I have decided that couching as a stitch is very under rated...

Even a bit of sky has begun to appear. There is a long way to go, but it is taking shape...

Happy Stitching,
Anna x

Show time...

First and foremost!
Thank you, thank you so, so much to everyone who took the time to vote for the picture of my Nautilus in TAFA photo contest! It is no secret that I love what I do and I am completely overwhelmed by your amazing support and so thankful for the acknowledgement of my work - just amazing!

The first two days at the Adelaide Sewing, Stitching and Hand Craft Show, my first big show, have been great fun. Sharing the little stand with my friend Michele and her wonderful quilts is just such a pleasure and I have had a great couple of days with lots, and lots of chatting to like-minded friends. It makes a really nice change from working at home on my own!

I was really upset on Friday that my new cards had not arrived in time but thankfully they came in the post on Friday and I spent last night packing. They will be in the SHOP as soon as I am able to get a couple of decent pictures...
There is one more cay tomorrow, so if you are in Adelaide (and don't feel like watching the football) do pop by and say hello.

As part of my getting ready for the show I finally got around to do something I have been wanting to do for some time: Set up a website! Yep, is up and running. Well, the main page is anyway. I am a little bit proud of this little project of mine. I am not IT wizz by any stretch of the imagination and since I am not in a position to pay anyone to do it for me I have been putting it in the 'too hard' basket for some time. In essence, all I wanted was a page to link the shop and blog as well as having somewhere to list my classes and courses (still to come - I simply ran out of time before the show so that is on next weeks 'to do' list) and I am really happy with how this little project of mine turned out.

As much as both Stitching show and website is great fun, I am seriously looking forward to getting my hands back onto needle and thread next week.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Anna x

Photo contest

I don't usually enter my work into contest, partly because I am too disorganised to get stuff ready on time but this one is a little different and I didn't have to stitch anything.

I got a lovely email from Rachel Biel, who founded and runs TAFA (The Textile and Fibre Art list) which is an online association of fibre artists from around the globe. It is a fabulous meeting place of like minded spirits and platform from which members can promote their art.
Rachel kindly encouraged me to enter images of my embroidery to the contest, although I am not a member (yet).

So I did it! I entered the TAFA Photo Contest. My picture of Nautilus is in incredibly good company with some amazing entries. It always blows me away just how broad and beautiful our wonderful world of embroidery is. Jump over and have look HERE - just keep scrolling down and enjoy.

It is a viewers choice competition - so you are all the judge. There are some beautiful and fantastical pictures to vote for and I confess I had to vote for a number myself. With voting just about to close, I am a bit of a late entry so, should you choose to send a 'voting heart' in my direction I would be ever so grateful.

Have a fabulous weekend,
Anna x

Where have I been..?

Well nowhere really but right here. Sometimes life just gets so, so busy.
The good news is, I now have a new assistant:

I would like you to meet Nala, our 7 week old Kelpie pup.

'Assistant' is perhaps a slight exaggeration - 'major distraction' and 'master of cheeky cuteness' is probably more appropriate terms for her job description.

So what have I been so busy doing?

The first embroidery course at TAFE SA has just finished - it was fabulously fantastic. I loved it and from the feedback I received, I am pretty sure the students did too.
The super great news is that because the course booked out, it is running again! Yep, a repeat of 'Foundation Stitches' will repeat! This time on Tuesday evenings and a little later (6 - 8.30pm).

I am now preparing a couple of new 5 week courses to start soon. More on that later in the week - I promise!

I decided to take a small stand at the 'Sewing, Stitching and hand craft fair' in Adelaide 17-19 of July. I am sharing the stand with my friend Michele Hill and I am sure is will be fun.

It seemed a really good idea when I booked it but I confess I feel a little overwhelmed by the whole thing. Right now there are half finished kits and piles of NEW THINGS everywhere... (which 'my assistant' finds quite amusing when she is not napping).

More on the NEW THINGS very soon - I promise!

STITCHING - just a little bit...

...brushing up on my needle painting, and...

...a new, little, 'quick' goldwork project for kits and classes.
To come very, very soon - I promise!

Phew, I am puffed
