Blue Birds
Back in September I read a post on The Unbroken Thread that really teased my curiosity. It was about a new project by UK embroiderer and artist Nicola Jarvis. To cut a long story short, after winning an art show at the William Morris Gallery in London, she is now preparing for a solo show at the gallery from June 15 to September 22, 2013).
I just love, love, love when embroidery makes its way into the gallery - any gallery! After pondering for a few weeks, I contacted Nicola to ask if she was short of stitchers for the show... not that I am short of things to do - my to-do list has a habit of growing much, much faster than anything else around here, but I just couldn't resist and this is my project.
Isn't it fabulous? How did she know I am going through a bit of a 'bird-phase'? I absolutely love it!
All I need to do is to get one or two (or three or four) things ticked off the infamous list and I can delve into the beautiful silks, beads and metallic threads....
Whatever you do this weekend, I hope it is good one - I will be netting vineyards, so not much stitching time for me.

Anna I have been meaning to tell you that I do read all your blog posts and find them so interesting but have only just figured out how to leave a comment (sorry to be so thick!). This project looks fantastic I can see why you are so enthused - look forward to seeing how it turns out. Happy NEw Year to You Anna and hope it brings everything of the best.

Trish, my fingers are truly itching, but I have such a pile of little things I need to get finished first and I know if I start this one they won't get done. I only hope that having this in the pipeline will make me finish the others faster. All the best,

HI Anna, I only recently found out you had a blog!! I am actually doing a class with Nicola Jarvis in the UK next year!! Love this design of Nicola's (of course!) and check out this Japanese embroiderer.....exquisite! There is a photo of her partially completed design based on William Morris's 'Strawberry Thief' in Gallery 2 http://yumikohiguchi.com
ReplyDeleteHave a great 2013!
Oh do you need someone to carry your suitcase?
DeleteAmazing design!
ReplyDeleteIsnt' it? - I am really, really, really looking forward to working this...!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is so stunning. I think you're going to have a lot of fun with it!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the course with Nicola Jarvis?
ReplyDeleteThe piece is not for a course but for an exhibition at the William Morris Gallery in London, though I believe Nicola will also be teaching this design at some point. You will need to contact her to find out more details. Just go to her blog - the link is in the post above.
